6H of FUJI – 4th Round of the WEC 2018-2019
Final Result in LMP2 – Second !
I was chosen to qualify the car with Gabriel as Silver and unfortunately, this time, besides the sister car, the #31 Dragon Speed was also faster than us. I have to say that the Michelin seem to work better over a push lap.
The weather is often bemused next to the famous Mount Fuji, this time it saved us a dry Friday and Saturday, but the rain made its appearance on Sunday morning for a wet start. Ho-Pin, our faithful ‘starter’, from 3rd on the grid with intermediate tires, had the tough responsability to fight in those tricky conditions. He was not able to resist from a quick Alpine and TDS but n°31 lost many positions because of these rain tires. A spin on a drying track for Lapierre in the Alpine and Vaxivière in the TDS gave us a little of room after 1 hour of race.
The rest of the race was on dry conditions. Unfortunately when Gabriel was driving after Ho-Pin, a GT pushed him and as a consequence spun, loosing almost 20 seconds… I pushed hard to cancel our delay from the 37. After my stints, around 1h20 from the finish, they lost some seconds during a messy pit-stop, it allowed us to catch them. But Ho-Pin in the last stint, couldn’t follow Jaafar’s pace and we had to accept this Second Place.
The next race, on November 18th, will be held in Jackie Chan DC Racing’s country, China !
