“The First time I raced in Le Mans in 2016, I didn’t realize how tough this race is !!
Maybe I would have preferred to first get a bad race and to win afterwards… but well, I won’t complain !
Unfortunately a race quickly compromised by two punctures which happened before the 4th hour, both in the last lap of the first outing of my team mates ! Already unlucky on the first one because it happened at the beginning of the lap, the second is a lot worse. Indeed, the front left tire literally exploded in the 1st straight line of the Hunaudière when Gabriel was driving at more than 300kph. He had to drive back to the pits really slowly and the damages were that bad, the team needed about 30 minutes to fix them …
Then we had nothing to lose than pushing hard except that we had to nurse even more the tires to avoid any punctures. Ho-Pin managed to pass in 8th position 5 min from the end, then with the G-drive and TDS being stripped out of their position as they were non-compliant with the regulations, we finally earned the 6th LMP2 position.
We are, of course, disappointed by what have happened but we don’t get any regrets and I have to say, the team did a tremendous work, hats off.
Now some rest and we’ll be back mid August in Silverstone !“
