6H of Nürburgring – FIA WEC 4th round
Hat Trick !
This German weekend was crucial after the good start of the season. It was all about keep on hammering the opponents for the championship, here on the Nurbürgring.
The first day didn’t go the best way with the car stuck in the garage in Free Practice 1 due to a crash, we didn’t make any lap, not the best way to set-up the car properly !
After that, the equation was simple : Work even more.
Slowyly the car evolved to the right direction and Quali went good with the second spot on the grid. Stéphane was chasing the laptimes in the first part of the session, confronting few corners with some wet patches, not easy for a first quali in the WEC !
The day after, Stephane took the start and worked his way well.
In 1st place after the leader’s retirement, the team had to resist from the cars behind. Several Full Course Yellow made the strategy tricky but everything was under control in the pits. And after 6 hours the #36 Alpine climbs on the highest step of the podium once again !
Stéphane Richelmi: «It was great for my experience that the team allowed me to qualify the car and take the start of the race. In the ealry laps, the G-Drive entry was a bit quicker than us, but we weren’t concerned because we knew we had were on different strategies. I had to contend with quite a high rate of tyre degradation, and it wasn’t always easy to know what the best approach would be. Gustavo and Nicolas then did a perfect job over the remainder of the race, and it’s brilliant to secure a third straight vitcory and in so, doing furhter extend on our championship lead. »
The next two races will be in America where Stephane never raced yet. Mexico the 3rd of September followed by Austin the 17th of September.
