ALPINE HITS THE HEIGHTS WITH THE LMP2 CATEGORY WORLD TITLE!
One round before the end of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), Signatech-Alpine won the LMP2 Teams’ title, whilst Nicolas Lapierre, Stéphane Richelmi and Gustavo Menezes secured the Drivers’ crown*.
After four race wins and two other podium-finishes, the no.36 crew secured fourth place at the end of the 6 Hours of Shanghai.
”For sure it wasn’t the easiest race for us on this demanding track for tires degradation. Since the 1st day, we understood we got a fast car over one lap but we were suffering about making the tires last compared to the others. Even with this big tires degradation we could have finished in 2nd. Too bad we gave Gustavo a set of hard tires and they didn’t work at all… Both the N°30 and RGR passed us and after my double stints, Nicolas took the wheel a couple of seconds behind Albuquerque. We all know Nico is incredible in putting pressure and finding any opportunity to pass a driver but he couldn’t do anything this time.
Honestly being on the podium became a habit and until the last seconds, I was disappointing about the result ! Anyway the most important was to win the championship and this sounds like a relief after an awesome and emotional season. Hard to describe the feeling of being LMP2 World Champion, I’m really proud for sure. Especially sharing this with each single persons from Signatech Alpine and my two team mates Gustavo & Nicolas. What a great harmony in all the Alpine team ! Thank you and see you next week in Bahrain, we have to finish on an high note ! ”
